Tom Hoar: Solo Show 2015
Following his celebrated Circus collection in 2013, Tom was invited to be artist in residence at the London Wonderground and stepped back into the realms of circus life, where 'the irresistible atmosphere of the artificial lights, light and dark, night and day constantly challenges you and forces you to be bolder.'
Looking for ever greater impact, Tom has been experimenting with painting in oil onto aluminium. Applying the paint directly on to smooth, solid surface of the metal he allows the full intensity of the colours to sit up against the aluminium.
Similarly this pursuit of colour has taken him out of his studio in Dorset and into the countryside. Painting en plein air Tom has discovered another new palate in nature, the landscape and its coastline, with its 'strength and intensity of colours, the turquoise blues and chalky whites of the south coast compared with the slate greys and heavy granite of the north.'
