Rick White

Rick White lives in Suffolk and paints or draws every day.

Describing his working practice, Rick writes 'I am fuelled by looking at nature all around me, from trees, foliage, water, light and shade. I work in two ways, but with nature at the heart of it all. Some paintings or drawings are very detailed close observational paintings, using my own black and white photographs as a structure and take months to complete. While others, which are far bolder, are about colour, shape, energy and made purely from observational drawing and my memories.

All the colours and shapes found in these pieces are mined from memories of my daily walks with the dogs. As I pass hedgerows, grasses, flowers, water and reflections, all these shapes and colours I see while walking leave an impression in my mind but in no order. I try and capture the sense of these memories in an exciting and colourful way.

Remembering these colours and bold forms I create exuberant compositions full of movement and energy. Through this process I hope I can create paintings that dance with the energy of the walk I have just done.'

Rick White has exhibited across the UK, in New York, Miami and Paris. He has had major solo shows in London with Hamilton's Gallery and Myerson Fine Art and exhibited recently with Society of Graphic Fine Art at the Mall Galleries. Rick has competed in the Jerwood Drawing Prize, he was a prize winner in a national Channel 5 competition and he has had residencies in Aspen, Colorado, and the Great Fosters Hotel.

We are delighted to represent his work in London alongside his other galleries in Suffolk and the Isle of Wight.
